Job Summary: This position performs journey level skilled work in maintenance and repair of heating, water, and drainage systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. Duties may vary from position-to-position or school-to-school.
- Assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, lift stations, water, drainage, and gas systems according to plumbing and mechanical codes, specifications, and standards.
- Maintains, tests, and repairs fire sprinkler systems.
- Maintains and repairs commercial kitchen equipment including dishwashers, disposals, and steamers.
- Performs testing, service, and repair of all backflow prevention devices on irrigation systems, fire sprinkler systems, boilers, and all non-potable water systems.
- Assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs pumping systems for hot water circulation, heating systems, irrigation systems, and sewage systems.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs hydronic and steam heating systems.
- Interprets building plans and specifications to maintain, repair, install, and inspect plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, drinking fountains, showers, water heaters, hot water tanks, and water filters.
- Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading equipment; cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
- Repairs and maintains plumbing of leaky faucets, burst pipes, and clogged drains; assembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Warehousing; receives direction from the Lead Plumber.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Building and construction site environment; requires visual concentration on detail, dexterity, and precision; must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, and work in tight and confined spaces; must be able to climb ladders and work in high places on scaffolding and mechanical lifts; must have physical ability to perform heavy outside work in all types of weather; must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds; experiences interruptions.
Training and Experience Journey level plumber with experience as a maintenance and/or construction plumber.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of plumbing and mechanical codes, specifications and standards; knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, domestic water and waste systems, boiler and heating systems, fuel gas distribution systems, and backflow prevention devices; skill in safely operating hand and power tools relating to plumbing and construction trades; skill in problem resolution; ability to read and interpret building plans, schematics, and specifications; ability to inspect plumbing and mechanical systems for compliance with codes and standards; ability to read, write, speak, calculate, and communicate effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public; ability to exercise good judgment, remain flexible, and work effectively under pressure; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Licenses/Special Requirements Required to possess Washington State Journey Level Plumber's License; required to possess Washington State Driver's License and good driving record; ability to learn to operate computers and learn specific software programs.
Salary: $49.92 Hourly. Salary is based upon the current Maintenance Collective Bargaining Agreement. Rate of pay will be in accordance with the current Maintenance salary schedule. FLSA Non-Exempt.
Work Year: It is a 12-month position, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week; typically works second shift, 12:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Schedule may be modified during school break periods.
