JOB SUMMARY

This position assists the Head Start teacher in providing developmentally appropriate instruction to three to five year-olds enrolled in the District’s Head Start Program, utilizing the district adopted curriculum.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. 

  1. Assists in planning and implementing the curriculum, designing classroom environments, including multicultural educational experiences, to meet the needs of all children (including those with disabilities), utilizing the district adopted curriculum. 
  2. Prepares materials and the learning environment as directed. 
  3. Assists with classroom management and helps students achieve positive social skill development.
  4. Makes daily, written observations of individual children, utilizing the district adopted assessment tools.
  5. Supervises student activities in the classroom and on school grounds.
  6. Participates in quarterly staffing and development of Individual Learning Plans (ILP).
  7. Assists in administering screenings and health duties as directed by the teacher.
  8. Prepares, eats family-style with students and cleans up after meals.
  9. Assist students with toileting, diapering and basic health needs, as needed.
  10. Assumes responsibilities of the teacher in his/her absence, as requested.
  11. Attends Head Start in-service training as necessary; attend other district-required training.
  12. Performs related duties as needed. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Head Start teacher and Program Administrator.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a classroom setting; lifting up to 25 pounds and some custodial care may be required; provides supervision on regularly-scheduled field trips. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent with three years of experience working with preschool-aged students preferred.  Fluent knowledge of written and conversational

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read, write, speak, calculate, and communicate effectively; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage; ability to interact with adolescents and parents in a warm, caring, and confident manner; demonstrated initiative and a high degree of independence; ability to work cooperatively with the multidisciplinary team and maintain confidentiality with regard to student information; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the public; willingness to participate in district-provided training.

 

Licenses/Special Requirements

Proof of physical examination, including TB skin test must be on file.  For those who have tested positive, a statement from a doctor or a chest x-ray must be provided.  Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Food Handler’s Permit within 90 days of hire. 

 

SALARY Salary is based upon the current ESP Salary Schedule (Level I); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt.

 

WORK YEAR  Days of the week and hours may vary
