JOB SUMMARY     

This position creates and maintains a safe, positive learning environment working as a certificated substitute teacher in the Northshore School District. A certificated substitute teacher must hold a current Washington State teaching or substitute certificate, which gives the individual the ability to substitute in classrooms K-12.

                                                                                                                                          

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.

 

  1. Works on an on-call basis often times with short notice as a certificated substitute for the regular classroom teacher.
  2. Fosters and manages a safe, positive learning environment for all students
  3. Supervises student behavior and enforces rules and regulations of the school and District.
  4. Maintains appropriate student discipline consistent with District policies and procedures.
  5. Implements lesson plans following directions left by the classroom teacher.
  6. Motivates and engages students in learning.
  7. Adjusts instruction and modifies lesson plans based on student needs.
  8. Maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, district staff, and the community.
  9. Uses software and equipment for educational uses and in accordance with District policies.
  10. Adheres to the Code of Professional Conduct, District policies and procedures, and State/Federal laws and regulations.
  11. WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a classroom setting on an on-call basis; required to meet inflexible deadlines; experiences constant interruptions; required to deal with distraught or frustrated people; works with students with diverse needs and cultural backgrounds; must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, and lift and carry objects typically weighing ten pounds or less; required to stand for extended periods of time; frequently reaches below shoulder height; occasionally pushes or pulls objects; frequently required to use sufficient manual dexterity to operate controls and computer keyboard, and handle books and other materials; exposure to infectious diseases.
