JOB SUMMARY

The Ready Start Para Educator works in a Co-Teach model supporting the instruction of 3-5 year old children, including children receiving special education services.  This position is responsible for assisting in implementing the district adopted curriculum.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. 

  1. Assists in planning and implementing the curriculum, designing classroom environments, including multicultural educational experiences, to meet the needs of all children (including those with disabilities), utilizing the district adopted curriculum. 
  1. Participates in planning and carrying out daily activities with the Ready Start Teachers, prepares materials and the learning environment as directed. 
  1. Assists with classroom management and helps students achieve positive social skill development. 
  1. Assist students with toileting, diapering and basic health needs, as needed. 
  1. Supervises student activities in the classroom and on school grounds. 
  1. Makes daily written observations of students, utilizing the district adopted assessment tools. 
  1. May assume limited responsibilities of the instructor in their absence. 
  1. Attends in-service training as necessary; attend other district-required training. 
  1. Performs related duties as needed. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to Program Administration and the Early Childhood Teacher.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a classroom environment; may experience frequent interruptions; may be required to assist students outside in inclement weather; provides supervision on regularly-scheduled field trips. May be required to attend evening meetings.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

An Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and successful work experience in an Early Childhood setting is preferred, but not required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to establish successful work relationships with staff and students; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to apply basic knowledge and competency in academic subject areas; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to respond calmly and professionally to emergency situations; and ability to follow directions.

 

Licenses/Special Requirements

A First Aid / CPR certification is required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

 

SALARY Salary is based upon the current ESP Salary Schedule (Level I); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt.

Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package, for eligible positions.  Generally, you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31).
